Started serving on 1st December 1995.
A Canadian company, Tee-Comm Electronics, created AlphaStar in March 1995 by
leasing more than half the 24 Ku-band transponders on Telstar 402R. The new
service to 61-cm home antennas, offers 110 television and 20 audio channels. It
will be expanded to over 200 channels in 1997 using
Telstar 5.
Customers in Alaska and Hawaii will also be served via slightly larger (76-cm)
antennas.
The satellite was renamed Telstar 4 after the loss of
Telstar 401
